Amber has arrived on the Upper West Side in a stunning fashion, immediately becoming an oasis for sushi-starved diners across the neighborhood. The restaurant and lounge, which bursts with personality, is quickly becoming the favorite haunt for network executives, hip downtowners, and everyone in between. The sushi is simply innovative and remarkably exquisite while the creative kitchen entrées always leave you wanting to come back for more.

Really average sushi, not fresh and similar to sushi you can find at a grocery

Food was over an hour and 15 minutes late (so far... I'm still waiting). I would not recommend ordering from this Amber location if you are hungry or have to leave within 2 hrs of placing your order.

Order was slow to arrive with soup and shumai delivered ice cold. Sushi pieces were substantial but the quality of the fish was suspect as my sashimi was limp and had that too-fishy smell which is a telltale sign of b-grade sushi.

Used to love this place...recently the fish has just been gross

Mehh... I got the $19 tuna. It was alright, but not much more than 10 pieces of tuna sashimi. I was expecting a proper tuna steak. The vietnamese summer roles were a bit different, but not very good either.

We've had Amber a few times since (we order out a lot and I have an allergy to gluten) and the quality has decreased. This is such a shame! They have also taken dishes off the menu (including one of out favorites). These dishes are, however, on the menu for the 3rd Ave Amber. The only thing that makes sense to us it that the head chef has changed, maybe moved to the East Side. Such a shame! We won't be ordering here any longer. A Few Months Ago: I don't know what happened- my bf and I had a meal here that was absolutely delicious and I was elated because there aren't many good sushi places on the UWS. But the takeout I received tonight was not good! The crunchy spicy tuna roll was not crunchy or spicy. The soft shell crab had gone bad. It's too late tonight to get ahold of them or I would ask for my money back.

Solid roll combo lunch special. People who work there seem very nice.

fantastic sushi. The lunch special is the best. :)

The sushi is always hit or miss here.

My first time ordering from Amber: A Value combo. I was very satisfied with it...I got the Filet Mignon Lettuce Wrap for an appetizer which to my surprise, was a generous portion and tasted good! For My main dish, I choose the the Upper West Side Roll ,it was delicious & fresh, came with 8 pieces. It also came with a beverage included. Delivery didn't take that long, about 30 minutes....

The rolls were a rip off. Instead of getting the spicy tuna roll I decided to pay $1.25 extra to get the kamikaze roll which had the crunchy flakes and tobiko on the outside (which I love). When I got my food there was literally hardly any tobiko on there! I'm not exaggerating when I say hardly... it was very disappointing as I hoped if I'm paying extra I would get something decent. The rolls were small... I wish I stuck to my usual Japanese takeout. Kouzan is WAY better and for the price so much better than here. Will never order from Amber again let alone eat at their establishment.

Pricey, but the good size portions make up for it

LOVE amber. The food is fresh and delicious every time.

Very fast delivery. Food is always fresh and they listen to an changes or substitutions you may make. I have order from here over 10 times and have not had issue.

Really delicious food.... and it always tastes so fresh, even with the time for delivery. My favorite thing on the menu is their pan fried dumplings. They are by far the best I've ever had- so good, you'll be craving them constantly!

I love Amber. Delivery is always a bit slow (but I'm not very close, so I"m surprised they even deliver to me!), but I'm always glad I placed the order and forget about the waiting once I start eating, because everything seems fresh and is delicious. The special rolls are a bit expensive, but include a small salad which is actually pretty good (with a spicy ginger type dressing). I am glad to have found out that Amber delivers to me!

Although some items are a bit pricey, the quality is consistently good and delivery prompt. Sushi is of good standard, and classic rolls like eel with avocado well-executed.

Great Pad Thai - prawns were fresh, noodles were light with just enough egg and spring onions - not too oily or greasy. Also really quick delivery!
Posted 9 months ago by Jonathan P.
best sushi for takeout (between this an tenzan and I'm not taking our from Gari...) Amber is VERY consistent but ordering here on regular basis is a bit too pricey - they can use some $ deals as their rolls seem just a bit more than most places 99% of the time our go-to sushi in the area

As with any sushi restaurant, the fish will always be fresher if you eat at the restaurant. That being said, if I want sushi delivered, I will order from Amber. The yellowtail jalapeno roll is delicious, as is the ocean roll, depending on your taste.

They never disappoint. Sushi is always top quality. Their salmon is the best. Try the crispy whole fish - delicious. They have some really creative rolls as well. And the fastest delivery on the Upper West Side!

The Sushi rolls were all inventive, fresh, and perfectly made. Absolutely delicious.

Perfect place if you can't decide between chinese and sushi. Sushi rolls are the perfect appetizer to Crispy Tangerine Chicken. Never had a dish or a roll I didn't like.

Dependable Pan Asian though they have not been including the soy sauce dipping pan in their sushi delivery for the past several months.
Posted 9 months ago by Matthew J.
The california rolls, only had crab and alvacado in them. And the spicy tuna rolls were really not good at all. If your ordering from here I suggest not getting any type of sushi rolls.

Not cheap, but pretty good sushi and sturdy packaging

A good option for the neighborhood. They're often out of the more specialty sashimi late at night but they do call quickly to ask what you want instead.

great lunch special! you get so much food for a fantastic price including soup. the tangerine chicken is delicious. can't wait to order again.

Great sushi! Even made my sushi with brown rice!

The food was very good and was delivered faster than the estimated 45-55 minutes. However, I made some requests that were not done. I clicked the button for my spicy tuna roll to be made "maki," with the seaweed on the outside, but it was made with the rice on the outside. I ordered edamame with sea salt and wrote in the comments box "no salt please" but it came with salt, so I had to rinse it off. If I order from them again I will have to call the restaurant directly because I can't be confident that the restaurant is thoroughly checking the order made through SeamlessWeb.

Awesome, good quality food! The crispy tangerine chicken is my absolute favorite dish on the menu - big portions actually, and everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious.

Not bad and reasonably priced but nothing to rave about.

Awesome sushi and sashimi. It's my new favorite. They also have an extensive menu, so most anyone can find something to suit their tastes, including my picky vegetarian friend.

This is the only place I order sushi from on UWS. I especially like the Sushi Generation.

Just okay. Considering the price, I expected more. The spicy scallop roll was very slimy and not spicy whatsoever. Yellowtail jalapeno roll was good. Shumai were fair.

Great food for the price. Rolls are big. Other things like Pad Thai are great here too. They are also really nice when you dine-in. Of course everything seems fresh since they have a lot of customers.

Not cheap, but delicious. Although their tofu was really crappy, everything else was quite good.

Great shrimp and pork dumplings and tangerine chicken. I love their duck rolls as well. Delivery is quick and lunch specials are nice-sized and well-prepared. Great place.

My husband, who is very particular about ribs, loved the BBQ Ribs appetizer. The sushi is reliably good, and the lemon grass soup is great for a cold!

Not good at all. Maybe the sushi is good but stay away from everything else. The shrimp in the green curry was not fresh. The fried rice and bbq spare ribs were disgusting. Our 2 year old that eats anything we put in his mouth spit out everything he tried. We just threw out $50 worth of food. Skip the food here.

Food was supposed to arrive in "15-30 minutes" but came in 50 minutes. I called and spoke to "Jenny", and she told me that if I wanted food in 30 minutes next time, I should try a different restaurant!

Ordered the Sushi Lunch Special and half the fish I received did not look edible.
Posted 2 years ago by Nic F.
The Crispy Tangerine Chicken was just ok. Not very much meat in it, just lots of "crisp." I liked the amount of food you get on the lunch specials for the price, but dumplings aren't good without dipping sauce and the salad was too warm from the food and wilted and, well, gross. I didn't really care for the Indian pancake with potato chicken curry. It actually wasn't chicken, it was tofu, but it was mostly the pancake that was disappointing. Penang does it MUCH better. Delivery was very quick.

We LOVE this place! The food is always fabulous and fresh. Amber delivers very quickly, so the hot dishes are still steaming. Our favorite dishes are Sushi, Pad Thai & Tangerine Chicken, but everything we've ever tried has been yummy!
Posted 2 years ago by Alexandria H.
Definitely not the freshest sushi. Was only able to eat 1/2 of what I ordered because I was not impressed with the quality. Steamed wontons w/ ginger soy were nothing to write home about nor were the crunchy (no crunch whatsoever) spicy tuna roll or the yellowtail chives roll.

Good sushi. BUT was told 15min dlvy time... IT TOOK 1 HOUR!

Fish tasted a little old. Was very surprised as when I have eaten there it has always been excellent.
Posted 2 years ago by Stephen A.
Ordered sushi here. The fish was not particularly fresh and the flavors were not good. Rolls were not very professionally rolled. Shiitake mushrooms were canned. Seaweed salad was so old it was inedible.
Posted 2 years ago by Richard S.
Worst delivered food I've had in some time. Ordered the Thai Basil w/ Shrimp. The dish was 95% thickly cut red onions that weren't cooked through. The shrimp wasn't close to fresh, nor was it cleaned. Two leaves of basil in total, and one unappetizing chunk of eggplant. Yuck all around, I had to throw it out after two bites. It wasn't cheap either! There goes $25 down the toilet. The one bright side - delivery service was super speedy.

I ordered at 11pm, and they came within 15 minutes. My stomach was feeling rather odd but I still ordered sushi on a whim... The salmon avocado roll was pretty decent. The wasabi was LEGIT. It actually caused me to tear once, unlike most mediocre wasabi... woohoo! The Indian pancake with curry was also pretty good. They had nice presentation as well, typical of Amber. (I've dined in the restaurant before.) I liked how the finely grated carrot curls were amazingly sweet... how did they get such great carrots?! and then I realized that they actually put sugar on the carrots... there was some by the side. It still tasted pretty good though so no complaints from me. I had diarrhea the next day but I guess I might be the one to blame, having ordered in on a weak stomach and eating a couple of leftovers before. I'm still rather partial to the place, having received excellent service dining there and ordering in.

the menu was extremely appetizing, so i ordered a boatload of sushi. the sushi tasted delicious, but within minutes i felt some extreme indigestion and was unable to finish my meal. i've been ordering from elsewhere since then but would not be opposed to trying amber again some time in the future.

This place is really outstanding. One of the best in the neighborhood by far. It's hard to find Asian cuisine with anywhere near this kind of inspiration and imagination. While all the other places are churning out more General Tso's chicken and lousy moo shoo and the same old greasy standard (ok, but usually delicious) mess, this place really let's you know, especially as an upper west side resident, what you're missing from most places: a chef with a brain and finally some looove in the food! Oh... I should mention that I haven't tried much of the sushi since it's a huge part of the menu. I'm kinda burnt out on the overpriced sushi that is everywhere up here.
Posted 3 years ago by Demian A.
look no further - if you are ordering in and amber is on the list, there is nothing better in this area - We have tried every place around - Tenzan used to be the best but now it's Amber. Yes, there's Sushi of Gari (not sure if they deliver) but Amber is all-around best to order in from when it comes to sushi.
